New Nappies Launch

The news that Huggies is to stop supplying nappies to the UK has left many brand-loyal parents wondering which product to use instead.

So, we've come up with a new range of Happy Shopper nappies which mirror Huggies' sizing system (with the exception of size 2). The nappies are great quality and they come in bright packaging similar to Huggies.

They also have a POR of 30% and are price-marked £3.29 - perfect for the independent retailer. Find them in our branches from the middle of June.
We're delighted to announce that Booker Wholesale has won an award for Excellence in Recycling!

The Commercial Sector Award for Excellence in Recycling 2013, presented to us earlier this month at the Landmark Hotel in London, was in recognition of our customer recycling scheme, which was launched in April 2012.

The scheme allows our customers to recycle their cardboard and shrinkwrap free of charge. All they have to do is sign up for the scheme, then drop their recycling materials off at their local wholesale branch.

Next, we send the cardboard and shrinkwrap to our recycling centres using empty lorries that have just delivered food to our branches. This means that transporting the waste is 'zero carbon'- genius!

The advantages for our customers are manifold:

  • If you throw the recycling in your car or van when you're going to Booker anyway, you won't have to make a separate trip to the recycling centre.
  • You save money on commercial waste disposal services - our customers report savings of around £1,400 a year.
  • Most of our customers visit Booker a few times a week, so you can get rid of your recycling before it builds up. This leaves you more space in your stock room, which will benefit your business by allowing you to stock up on great deals.
  • You can tell your customers that you recycle and include this in your marketing message.

  • Cath Marston, Sustainability Manager at Booker, said: "Lots of smaller businesses want to be more environmentally friendly, but it can be a real challenge without the resources of a larger company. We're really proud that our scheme has helped to make recycling accessible to smaller businesses.

"We continue to work across the Booker estate to prevent waste, redistribute fit for purpose food, increase recycling and divert waste away from landfill."

Since we launched the scheme, over 7,500 customers have signed up, and since April 2012, an extra 3000 tonnes of cardboard and shrinkwrap have been recycled. Each Booker branch has a ‘Green Champion' who helps run the scheme.
